Photographing Reflections

Saturday 22 March
Shelby Farms Park - 10am - 2 Hours
D'Angelo Connell
We will be using natural water reflections and seeking out man-made reflective surfaces in the area to explore how we can use reflections to add depth and intrigue to our images. Reflections can help us to show our subject from an unusual, or from multiple, points of view. We can use reflections to abstract our subject or to make perfect mirror images. We'll even have a look at how we can create our own reflections when there are none around.

Speed Landscape Drawing and Painting

Saturday 29 March
Shelby Farms - 10am - 1 Hours
Memphis Art Group
Kevin Leonard
The focus of this two-hour structured session is "speed" and "form", i.e. capturing the essence of a subject. You will be guided to complete some "warm-up" colour and drawing exercises and prepared for doing ink and watercolour-based painting in the session. You will learn how to quickly sketch and capture multiple subjects in the garden with ink and wash technique. You will be advised to keep things rather loose and time your drawing/painting. You will have a chance to meet and greet like-minded people, choose your own subjects in the garden and be guided to complete the exercises, and artwork and have some takeaway homework with the learned technique. All levels and experiences are welcome.

It was around the end of summer and the last week before I had to put the top on the Jeep for the year so I thought I needed a cool picture of the Jeep. I just bought lightbars and I came across a tutorial about light painting using lightbars so I thought this is a perfect time. I was looking for a location where I can be in a very dark area with bright background and I remember seeing people going offroad to this spot with Memphis skyline in the background. This photo is a combination of two lo

It was a gorgeous day for photography at the Memphis Zoo that day. It was my birthday and I thought taking photos of all the animals and wildlife would be fun. I had forgot about the butterfly cage there. It was fun photographing all the beautiful butterflies and I captured this one as it landed on a pretty bloom. It was shot with a Nikon zf the 28-400 mm telephoto lens. For great photos check out the Memphis Zoo friends.

I usually travel to this spot to get away from the city. It is tranquil and peaceful there. I decided to go there with my camera on such a beautiful fall day. I am glad I did. The fall colors, the transparent reflection on the water, and the clouds against the blue came together so perfectly that I couldn't resist capturing them in a photo.

Recently I went on a Pontoon boat trip on Reelfoot Lake with the Memphis Camera Club. I had to be at the boat landing by 7 am so I had to get up very early for breakfast. On the way to the store, I saw an opportunity to get a beautiful sunrise photo that was worth a quick stop. The sun was just beautiful on the water that morning and this photo was the result. I took the photo with with a Nikon zf with a 28 - 400 mm lens zoomed in just a bit. Reelfoot Lake in West Tennessee is beautiful and

I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee but currently call Atlanta home. The desire to utilize my photography skills in my hometown had been lingering within me for quite some time, ranging from capturing portraits to documenting the essence of the city through street photography. With a clear vision in mind, my objective was to immerse myself in photography as much as possible during my brief two-day visit to Memphis. I connected with Coco, a promising model based in Memphis. A beautiful rainbow just on sunrise at Watonga Rocks, at Lighthouse Beach in Port Macquarie, Australia. The rainbow persisted for over an hour, allowing time to wade out into the surf to get the rainbow positioned just right for a photograph. I had to watch for breaking waves behind me while taking photographs to avoid bring dunked and I had to tun for it several times. Happily it all worked out and I captured a great images.

The photo was taken at Emsworth, a very picturesque harbour on the south coast of England. The sea was incredibly calm making it like a mirror, and the morning light was soft and warm in colour. I was stood on the harbour wall and framed the shot to include the sunken boat to give it scale and perspective.
